Stop! In the name of blood...

At ahc of Marlboro you have the benefit of doctors who can perform a variety of surgical operations and corrections. We pick our anesthetic protocols for our patients and the procedures that are planned. Each patient receives an individualized assessment that includes a thorough inpatient examination and preoperative safety checks prior to each procedure. We can perform on site X-ray, EKG (electrocardiogram) testing, blood pressure measurement and blood profile analysis in the immediate pre-operative period to give us crucial information for the benefit of our patients; adjusting medications and protocol based on these results and consultations with specialists if needed.

We have a dedicated surgical suite for aseptic procedures and many of the same anesthetic machines and monitoring equipment you would find in human hospitals. We also ensure that body temperature is maintained throughout the pre-operative, operative and postoperative periods. Who wants to wake up on a cold table when gently warmed air circulated through a cushioned heating pad is provided for comfort and safety? During recovery we have a dedicated staff of nurses who will monitor the changes and needs of our patients. The recovery stage includes cages with padded bedding surfaces, calming music and dimming of the lights to aid in a smooth transition from surgery to wakefulness. And of course management and control of pain is an absolute priority; almost like a fourth vital sign after body temperature, pulse, and respiration.

Our general surgical practice involves reproductive sterilization surgeries – ovariohysterectomies and castrations, as well as many soft tissue surgeries that include but are not limited to lumps and bumps both on the outside and on the inside, nail and claw injuries, traumatic injuries and wound management, and skin reconstruction techniques of the eye, ear, and limb. We routinely perform surgeries involving the digestive tract, the urinary tract, and oral cavity. Sometimes we use surgery as a diagnostic aid when x-ray evaluations and ultrasound studies suggest an exploratory surgery is needed for diagnosis and/or treatment plans that require tissue samples and biopsy submission to the pathologist for accurate planning and staging.

Some surgeries are beyond the scope of our practice requiring a different skill set and/or equipment, such as orthopedic procedures, so we are very fortunate to have surgical specialists locally available for consultation and referral. We are happy to work very closely with these specialists in the planning and recovery of our patients (including the use of our physical rehabilitation equipment) to provide the best anticipated outcome.

Some of our surgeries are short stay/same day procedures without a sleep-over. Other procedures involve a sleep-over and, of course, your kids are considered our kids when they’re here with us. Your pets will be provided with water and food choices as advised by your doctor or provided by you for those on homemade diets or requesting special treats. As always, a fluffy bed, soothing talk, and lots of love are provided by all caregivers.
